What to Expect
When you walk into GEFC for the first time you will probably see some warm, friendly faces, but you won’t feel any pressure to sign-up or commit yourself to anything. We consider ourselves a “come as you are church,” so wear what makes you comfortable. You will see people in shorts, jeans, t-shirts and sandals and people in suits, ties, and business casual wear. We try to be a place where all people, from all different walks of life can come, be comfortable and experience God. We want you to feel free to check us out and determine whether we might be a good match for you (and your family). That’s why we want you to take things at a pace that is comfortable to you. GEFC may not be for everyone, but we want you to be the one who makes that determination. We’re here to help at your invitation.
Walking in the door
If you’d just like to check out a Sunday morning worship service, walk in the main entrance and turn right. If you’d like to explore other options, or just have a question, anyone hanging out in the Welcome Room will be happy to help you. We have coffee and refreshments available for you when you come. We know how hard it is for some of us to function without our morning coffee.
Teaching
We strive to teach messages from the Bible that have real life meaning and application and that don’t put you to sleep. So we end up talking about a lot of different topics from a lot of different books of the Bible. God’s Word is very important to us, so our messages use and are consistent with the truth found in Scripture.
Music
We believe that music is an important tool that helps us ascribe worth to God. It also prepares us to listen to Him as we study the Word. Christian songwriters of every generation have added stylistic and literary distinctives to church music, unified in their worship of God while separated by cultural change.
As a result, a typical Sunday includes modern worship songs from today’s writers and some of the best historical works of the church. Our music is provided by GEFC’s Worship Team.
Giving
Individual giving is a form of worship; it should be done joyously, freely, generously and without internal or external compulsion. If you are a visitor at GEFC we expect you not to give. A collection plate is passed at the beginning of our services; please feel free to pass the plate by. We are just glad you are here. Our church is a part of the EFCA (Evangelical Free Church of America) denomination and we receive no financial support from the EFCA. This means that we run all of our day to day operations and ministries with the gracious gifts of the people who call GEFC their home church.
Take things at your pace
We believe that God loves us and accepts us right where we are. We don’t have to pretend to be spiritual or good for God. We also believe that he wants us to experience what it really means to live, because He is life. The journey with God leads to amazing and wonderful things. But it is a journey you are on with God. It is a journey that is best travelled at your pace. We believe that the really good change that happens in our lives is the change that God does. He only helps us change when we are willing to let him change us. Our job is not to change you. Our job, as a church, is to simply provide a safe place, full of love and grace where you can come to meet with God. Our job is to provide healthy soil that will help you grow only when you are ready to grow.
